The Twain is a late 1840’s – Early 1850s Size 3 based on a CF Martin. I am a big fan of Mark Twain. He learned guitar from his sister who was an instructor and acquired a used 1840’s Martin guitar that he took with him on all his travels around the world. This one is based on measurements from an original belonging to one of my customers. My customer entrusted their original to me for some repairs and very graciously offered to let me measure it for patterns to make my own. This guitar is so much fun to play and is great if you want to play Americana or Cowboy tunes. Are you a reenactor? Time to put away the dreadnaught and go “old school”. They are hard to put down! The original of this guitar would have been strung with gut. I like the La Bella Folk Singer strings (The ones Willie Nelson uses on Trigger) and brace especially for them. Fan bracing as original. Lightweight, impossibly fun to play, small by today’s standards but period correct size. Surprisingly full tone and volume.
